HM King’s pioneering global peace, tolerance initiatives praised at HRC 54

A coalition of UN observer international human rights organisations, led by the Arab Union for Human Rights, has affirmed that His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa is a global leader who seeks to achieve peace and tolerance worldwide, praising HM’s pioneering experience in combating discrimination and racism, as well as in consolidating human coexistence and fostering global peace.

The statements were made during the general debate on agenda item 9, devoted to racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related forms of intolerance, follow-up to and implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, as part of the 54th session of the UN Human Rights Council (HRC 54).

Addressing the 40th meeting of the HRC 54 on behalf of the international coalition, Isa Al Arabi, President of the Arab Union for Human Rights, called for drawing inspiration from the pioneering experience of the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of HM King Hamad, to the achieve the Human Rights Council’s goals.

The coalition affirmed that Bahrain is a civilised model of peace, tolerance and human coexistence, praising the kingdom’s efforts to implement HM the King’s humanitarian vision.

In its statement, the coalition of international human rights organisations lauded Bahrain’s organisation of the Bahrain Dialogue Forum “East and West for Human Coexistence”, the launch of the ‘The Bahrain Declaration’ promoting interreligious dialogue and peace among religions, the establishment of the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, the inauguration of the King Hamad Chair for Interfaith Dialogue and Peaceful Coexistence, the establishment of the King Hamad Cyber Peace Academy, and the launch of the King Hamad Programme for Faith in Leadership, noting that all those initiatives aim to foster human tolerance and coexistence among various religions and sects so as to contribute to consolidating policies and practices aimed at promoting peace, tolerance and human coexistence all over the world.

The coalition also expressed its deep concern about the miserable conditions the world is going through as a result of violations and transgressions based on racial discrimination towards others, stressing the importance of concerted efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination in the world. It also called for emulating the kingdom’s experience in addressing those issues.

In the statement submitted to the HRC, the coalition highlighted the Kingdom of Bahrain’s deep-rooted rich record of peace, tolerance and coexistence among various cultures, religions and social groups, noting that those principles have been consolidated further by HM King Hamad and the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
