Kingdom Stresses Importance of Joint Arab Efforts to Achieve Sustainable Development, Water and Food Security

Riyadh: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia emphasized the importance of joint Arab efforts in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as water and food security, while highlighting the role of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) and its significant support for Arab countries in these areas, ensuring the optimal utilization of natural resources in the Arab world.

This emphasis was made during the Kingdom’s hosting of the 37th General Assembly meeting and the 44th session of the Executive Council of ACSAD, during which Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Eng. Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen Alfadley was elected as President of the General Assembly of ACSAD for the 2024-2026 term. The minister chaired the two sessions, held today in Riyadh, in the presence of ACSAD Director-General Dr. Nasr Al-Obeid and members of the General Assembly of the centre, with the participation of several Arab delegations.

The minister noted that this meeting provides an opportunity t
o discuss the challenges facing Arab countries in the fields of environment, water, and agriculture, and to identify effective strategies for overcoming these challenges to implement programs and projects that achieve sustainable development and food security. He also highlighted the accomplishments of activities and programs aimed at improving the environment, water, and agricultural sectors in Arab countries.

After the meeting, Alfadley signed an agreement between the ministry and ACSAD to enhance cooperation in the fields of environment, water, and agriculture, and to address environmental challenges in the Arab region, utilizing the relative advantages of the region to achieve the envisioned goals. The attendees also viewed a presentation on the environmental, water, and agricultural efforts and activities of the centre.
