Mayor of Beit Lahia, Alaa Al Deen Al Attar issued an urgent call for relief, declaring that the city of Beit Lahia is a disaster area due to the ongoing war of extermination and the 25-day-long siege imposed on it.
Al Attar told Qatar News Agency that Beit Lahia is experiencing a humanitarian catastrophe. The city has no food and water, its hospitals and ambulances are out of work, the civil defense is unable to do their job, and sanitation, cleaning and communications services have been interrupted.
The Mayor of Beit Lahia urged salvaging what is possible in Beit Lahia as it is being subjected to killing and genocide. He called on the international community and all international and humanitarian organizations to pressure the Israeli occupation to stop the genocide in the city.
He stressed the dire need to open a safe passage to bring in all medical, food and fuel supplies, as well as provide civil defense and ambulance equipment to work on recovering the martyrs and rescuing the wounded from under the r
ubble, especially after the occupation committed a number of massacres against the Palestinians in Beit Lahia.
The Mayor of Beit Lahia added that it is crucial to bring in fuel needed to operate water wells, desalination plants and sewage pumps, as well as heavy machinery to open roads and remove rubble to allow easier transportation of Palestinians, ambulances, and civil defense vehicles.
Beit Lahia, located in the far northwest of the Gaza Strip, has been subjected to ground incursions more than once since October 7, 2023, causing the destruction of most of the agricultural lands, service facilities, and Palestinian homes.
The occupation committed several massacres on Tuesday in the city that claimed the lives of dozens, including the bombing of a five-story residential building, resulting in the martyrdom of 93 civilians and the injury and loss of dozens.
About 19 others were martyred on Tuesday evening after the occupation warplanes bombed a residential block in Beit Lahia.
