Doha: Fifteen people, including 12 military personnel, two police officers, and a former forest department official, were killed in an attack on a police post in northwestern Pakistan, an official statement said Friday. The attack took place in the Tank district of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan, when attackers "rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall" of a police check post in an attempt to breach it, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations, the media and public relations wing of Pakistan's armed forces.
According to Qatar News Agency, twelve attackers were killed during the attack, according to the statement. A "sanitization operation is being conducted to eliminate any other Indian sponsored Kharji found in the area," it added.
It is worth noting that Pakistani forces have, for years, been conducting operations to eliminate armed groups entrenched in mountainous areas, who launch attacks against civilians, security forces, and the military from time to time.
