The actions at airports in Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Cologne/Bonn are scheduled for both Thursday and Friday, while workers at Stuttgart airport are set to strike on Friday, German news agency (dpa) reported.

The strike will affect aviation security, passenger and goods control, as well as other service personnel positions.

Passengers have been told to expect widespread delays and cancellations, with airport association ADV estimating about 700 flights will be scrubbed from the schedules.

German services sector trade union Verdi and the Federal Association of Aviation Security Companies have made little headway in negotiations concerning bonuses for night, weekend and holiday work.

The workers are also seeking a better collective agreement on overtime pay for security and service staff at commercial airports.

Negotiations are to continue on April 27 and 28.
