Doha, – Several academics and researchers highlighted the dimensions of the current crisis Palestinians are grappling with due to the current circumstances in the Gaza Strip which prompt exploring and formulating a new political pathway that expresses a variety of Palestinian political aspirations to counter the persistent Israeli extremism.
This came in a panel discussion themed: “The Imperative of Palestinian Political Renewal” held on the margins of Doha Forum 2023 with the participation of the Global Academic Leader, Professor and Dean of Georgetown University in Qatar, Dr. Safwan M. Masri, President of Al Sharq Forum, Wadah Khanfar, fellow at the Middle East Council on Global Affairs, Omar Rahman, alongside director of program and advocacy at Palestine Institute for Public Diplomacy, Rula Shedid.
The panel was moderated by the broadcaster at MSNBC, Mehdi Hasan, during which the speakers discussed the genocide, and the ethnic cleansing that Gaza Strip has been exposed to for more than 63 years, as the Israeli occupation continues its intense bombardment of Palestinian civilians in the strip which will be negatively reflected on the region and the world.
The panelists emphasized that the current situation unfolding in the occupied Palestinian territories is one of the most prominent incidents in the history of the Palestinian cause, pointing out that the Oslo Accords that brought the parties to the conflict together is merely a delusion that Palestinians have reaped nothing from them, since two decades have passed since the Palestinian split between the West Bank and Gaza Strip, along with other circumstances that cast a massive shadow on the Palestinian cause.
The speakers called on the Palestinian leadership to consider the radical change Israel seeks to achieve and be aware of everything being hatched against the Palestinian people, in addition to taking advantage of this historic opportunity thanks to the increasing global solidarity with the Palestinians and never repeating mistakes of the past.
They also noted the importance of talking about the Palestinian political renewal, especially in light of the lack of just solutions throughout 75 years in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which underscores the need for establishing a political commission that represents the Palestinian people with their all spectrums to be concerned with their leadership considering the current regional and international incidents without any conflict of interests or change in positions.
The panelists affirmed that the unity of the Palestinian people is one of the most prominent and ample means to regain their rights, calling for overcoming the failure that hampered the implementation of the Palestinian accord on the ground, as well as rallying international support to initiate the project of the Palestinian state on the national territory.
In a related context, the speakers pointed to the marginalization case the Palestinians are grappling with, including those who have been living in the occupied territories since 1948, where the Israeli government deals with them aggressively, and the Palestinian leadership cannot take care of them in the midst of the current situation, in addition to the segregation policy being practiced against them.
