Samsung flags 15-fold surge in Q2 profit as AI boom lifts chip prices


Seoul: Samsung Electronics Co. on Friday estimated its second-quarter operating profit shot up more than 15-fold, as a prolonged boom in artificial intelligence computing lifted prices of memory chips.

The world’s biggest maker of memory chips expected a second-quarter operating profit of 10.4 trillion won (US$7.5 billion), up 1,452.2 percent from a year earlier, Samsung Electronics said in a regulatory filing.

Revenue increased 23.3 percent to 74 trillion won for the April-June period. The company did not disclose the data for net earnings in the guidance.

The operating profit was 25.8 percent higher than the average estimate, Yonhap News Agency reported.

It is the first time that Samsung Electronics posted an operating profit of 10 trillion won or over since the third quarter of 2022, when it logged 10.8 trillion won.

The second-quarter operating profit also topped its annual figure of 6.5 trillion won for 2023.

Iraqi Prime Minister meets Somalian counterpart


Baghdad: Muhammad Shiaa Al Sudani, the Iraqi Prime Minister, met with Hamza Abdi Barre, the Prime Minister of Somalia, and his accompanying delegation.

UK’s New Prime Minister Halts Rwanda Deportation Plan

Israeli Army Wounds, Arrests Palestinians in Multiple Areas Across West Bank

The Israeli occupation army stormed several villages and towns in the occupied West Bank, sparking confrontations that resulted in injuring many Palestinians and arresting others.

Local sources said that seven Palestinians, among them a child, were injured by a salvo of Israeli ammunitions, during the Israeli army’s incursion into Nablus city north of the occupied West Bank.

The sources highlighted that the Israeli army deployed its forces near Balata refugee camp amid intense gunfire, which sparked confrontations, during which three people, among them a child, were injured. Also, four others were wounded by shrapnel shells, and all were whisked off to the hospital.

The Israeli army stormed Beita town south of Nablus and broke into one house in the West bank, during which it assaulted three Palestinians who were inside who inflicted injuries and bruises. Two of them were transferred to the hospital.

The Israeli army arrested four Palestinians from Qibya town west of Ramallah after storming the town and br
oke into the houses of the detainees, in addition to arresting a Palestinian from the town of Jabaa south of Jenin when he stumbled on a military checkpoint.

The Israeli military vehicles rammed into the town of Birzeit north of Ramallah, where the occupation soldiers stormed several residential neighborhoods, searched houses, and destroyed their furniture.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation army tightened its military measures in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem and the perimeter of Al-Aqsa Mosque, preventing dozens of Palestinians from entering them, and maintaining the siege on Al-Aqsa Mosque, since Oct.7, 2023. The Israeli military forces are present all the time there and engage in erecting iron barriers, stopping visitors, and often trying to hinder their entry into the mosque.

Two Martyrs in Israeli Raid on Al-Zaytoun Neighborhood North of Gaza

Two Palestinians were martyred, and others wounded, on Saturday, following an Israeli raid on a group of Palestinians in Al-Zaytoun neighborhood southeast of Gaza.

Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) quoted local sources as saying that the Israeli Occupation army fired artillery shells into the vicinity of Salba area in Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, north of the Gaza enclave, resulting in the martyrdom of two people and injuring others.

Meanwhile, the Israeli occupation army has continued its offensive from land, sea, and air on the Gaza enclave, since October 7, 2023, which led to 38,098 martyrs and 87,705 injured, with thousands of victims still under rubble and on roads, while medical and civil defense personnel are unable to reach them.

It also offered a comprehensive suite of services to boost participants’ professional capabilities and help them stay abreast of the challenges and rapid changes in the labour market.

The workshop comes as part of the ongoing collaboration between the Ministry of Labour and the International Labour Organization (ILO), to support their efforts towards achieving common goals, in terms of enhancing opportunities to qualify expatriate labour cadres and developing labour skills to improve the

Turkish Authorities Apprehend 25 Illegal Migrants Southwest of the Country

Turkish authorities have apprehended 25 illegal migrants off Mugla province coasts southwest of the country.

In a statement on Saturday, Turkish Coast Guard Command stated that its teams tracked a rubber boat off the coast of the city of Fathiya in the province. The teams stopped the boat and apprehended 25 migrants among them a child.

The Turkish border with Bulgaria, Greece and Turkish coasts witness an increasing number of illegal migrants who pursue land and sea lanes to cross to one of the European countries. The Turkish police uses different techniques to prevent infiltration into its borders.

6 Palestinians Martyred Following Israeli Army’s Raid on Vehicle in Rafah

Six Palestinians were martyred on Saturday due to the relentless airstrikes of the Israeli occupation army on the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) quoted local sources as saying that six Palestinians were martyred and two others injured after the Israeli occupation army bombed a vehicle in Gaza’s Al-Shakoush area, northwest of Rafah.

The Israeli occupation army continues its intense and unprecedented offensive in the Gaza Strip since October 7 through launching dozens of airstrikes and ground and naval bombardments, resulting in bloody massacres against Palestinian civilians, as well as tens of thousands of martyrs, injured, and missing persons.

It has also caused massive devastation to the critical infrastructure, exacerbating an unprecedented humanitarian disaster in the region due to the restrictions on food, water, medicine, and fuel imposed by the occupation army.
