Moscow, President Bashar al-Assad paid a working visit to Russia, during which he met with President Vladimir Putin and discussed with him all aspects of relations between the two countries, as well as the situation in the Middle East, the accelerated developments in it and aspects of joint coordination to deal with it.

President al-Assad considered that both Syria and Russia have faced difficult challenges and have always been able to overcome them, noting the mutual trust and credibility that underpin the relations of the two countries and peoples.

President Putin stressed that the situation is becoming increasingly tense in the Middle East and that the talks with President Assad are an opportunity to discuss all possible developments and scenarios.

He affirmed at the same time that there are promising opportunities for economic and trade relations between Syria and Russia.

Manama, His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), has assigned HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of BOC, to lead Bahrain’s delegation at the 33rd Summer Olympics in Paris from 26 July to 11 August 2024.

The Vice President of BOC expressed his appreciation to His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad, noting that the assignment reflects HH Shaikh Khalid’s confidence in national capabilities to represent Bahrain effectively on the international stage. He emphasised his pride in this trust.

The Vice President of BOC highlighted the significant support from HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad and pledged collective efforts to support the delegation in achieving the best results and raising Bahrain’s flag at this major sporting event. He expressed full confidence in the Bahraini delegation’s ability to achieve remarkable success at
the Paris 2024 Olympics and stressed the importance of thorough preparation and diligent work to meet the set goals.

He wished the Bahraini delegation success in the competition, and that their efforts would be crowned with a new Olympic achievement for Bahrain.

Manama, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, the Interior Minister, received Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, President of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), with Lieutenant General Tariq Al Hassan, the Chief of Public Security, in attendance.

The Interior Minister emphasised that enhancing community security programmes and initiatives stems from the values and principles of the comprehensive development process of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, which has consolidated the status of human rights and oversight institutions and strengthened their role to develop the human rights system in the country. The Minister also noted the support provided by the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The Minister praised NIHR’s professional performance and its role in promoting human rights values and raising public awareness. He highlighted the institution’s efforts through its visits to the Correction and Rehabilitation Ce
ntre, meeting with inmates, and reviewing their conditions and the services provided to them.

The meeting also discussed cooperation to promote human rights values and principles, along with various related topics, to further develop joint efforts.

The General Secretariat of the Shura Council obtained the ISO global certificate for the comprehensive quality management system (ISO 9001:2015), in the scope of planning and quality after a comprehensive and intensive assessment of the quality standards implemented in its operations.

In a statement, the General Secretariat of the Council indicated that obtaining the certificate from the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) reflects its efforts to apply the best performance standards, and to continuously improve and develop administrative work methods in the Shura Council.

It also noted that this certification confirms the consistency and quality of the processes carried out by the General Secretariat, and its commitment to promoting a culture of quality through an effective system for managing change, as well as continuous improvement and regular assessment of its operational efficiency.

The General Secretariat noted that the (ISO) certificate will be a key factor in implementing the best administr
ative standards in the Council, enhancing operational efficiency, and continuously developing and improving performance, which supports and strengthens the Council’s work in exercising its legislative and oversight powers to the fullest extent.

Manama, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, President of Customs, received Safa Sharif Abdulkhaliq, CEO of Bahrain Exports.

During the meeting, the Customs President discussed several topics of shared interest and the development plans and programmes both entities aim to implement using modern technologies to benefit local institutions. They also focused on the progress and objectives of the service level agreement between Bahrain Exports and Customs Affairs.

The Customs President emphasised the importance of cooperation with all sectors, both governmental and private, to facilitate smooth operations and streamline procedures. This, he stated, is part of the broader goal of improving work processes and ensuring quick completion of tasks.

Bahrain Exports’ CEO highlighted the importance of enhancing all aspects of cooperation between Customs Affairs and Bahrain Exports.

Doha: The State of Qatar, through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), is contributing USD 25 million to UNRWA to support Palestinian Refugees and the agency’s human development and humanitarian activities in the region.

Following the signing between the two parties, Acting Director-General of QFFD Sultan bin Ahmed Al Aseeri said that, “in addition to its vital role in providing basic services to Palestine Refugees in its fields of operation, including education, healthcare, and social protection, UNRWA today has a critical role to deliver aid to the people in Gaza who are facing a horrific war. This contribution reaffirms Qatar’s strong support for the Palestinian cause and for addressing the humanitarian situation facing Palestinian Refugees”.

Similarly, UNRWA Director of External Relations and Communications, Tamara Alrifai said that “Qatar has long been a steadfast supporter of Palestine Refugees and an advocate and supporter of UNRWA’s work across the region.

“The Agency is grateful to the governmen
t and people of Qatar for their solidarity and generosity, especially as the situation in Gaza reaches unprecedented levels of suffering,” Alrifai added, pointing out that “UNRWA is the backbone of the humanitarian response in Gaza and remains one of the sources of normality for Palestine Refugees in the region, through critical services such as healthcare and education.” UNRWA’s significant financial challenges threaten its ability to maintain its essential services for Palestine Refugees. The Agency has called on donors and partners to renew their support for Palestine Refugees at large, and particularly for the people of Gaza, who depend on UNRWA for their survival needs.

In 2023, Qatar contributed USD 18 million to the Programme Budget of UNRWA in support of Palestine Refugees.

Manama, Bahrain’s Parliamentary Division delegation, led by Lina Habib Qassim, Shura Council Member and including MP Hassan Ibrahim Hassan, will participate in the 16th Workshop for Parliamentary Experts and Members of Parliament at Ruxton College, University of Hull, UK. The workshop is jointly organised by the Inter Parliamentary Union and the Centre for Legislative Studies at the University of Hull on July 27-28.

Participants in the workshop will speak about their experiences and challenges in legislation, in addition to discussing academic research and studies on parliamentary affairs.

This year’s workshop will focus on Artificial intelligence (AI) and its role in parliaments and enhancing strategic integration in parliamentary activities. This is in addition to discussing the structure of draft laws and the role of parliaments in improving the quality of legislation, the scope and limits of parliamentary diplomacy and its impact on various aspects, and a number of related topics.
