HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister condoles with HM the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan


Manama, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, sent a cable of condolences to His Majesty King Abdulla II Ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, following the passing of the former Prime Minister of Jordan, HE Zaid Al-Rifai.

HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister sent a similar cable to the Crown Prince of Jordan, His Royal Highness Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.

Bahrain, Saudi Arabia sign sports cooperation agreement


Paris, The General Sports Authority (GSA) of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Ministry of Sports of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Paris, aimed at enhancing collaboration in the sports sector.

The MoU was signed by His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS), Chairman of the General Sports Authority (GSA), and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), alongside His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee.

Prince Fahad bin Jalawi, Vice President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee; Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Vice Chairman of the GSA; Essam Abdulaziz Al Jassim, Bahraini Ambassador to France; Dr. Abdulrahman Askar, CEO of the GSA; and Adwa Abdulrahman Al Arifi, Assistant Minister for Sports Affair of Saudi Arabia, attended the signing ceremony.

The MoU aimed at streng
thening bilateral sports cooperation, focusing on the promotion of community, Paralympic, women’s, and combat sports, along with the organisation of events, development of sports professionals, and collaboration on sports investment, facility management, and long-term training programmes.

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad emphasised that the MoU marks a strategic advancement in the sports relations between the two kingdoms, reflecting the shared commitment to enhance cooperation and exchange expertise in various sports disciplines.

Labour Minister receives Sri Lankan Ambassador


Manama, Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, Minister of Labour and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), met with Reethisri Wijeratne Mendis, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Bahrain.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations and means to develop them in the labour field.

Minister Humaidan briefed the ambassador on Bahrain’s ongoing initiatives to align its national labor systems and legislation with international standards, aiming to enhance the labour market and promote a healthy working environment.

Ambassador Mendis commended Bahrain’s progressive labour laws and its commitment to protecting workers’ rights. She also praised Bahrain’s consistent achievements in combating human trafficking, noting its recognition in the top global tier for the seventh consecutive year. The ambassador expressed her country’s keenness to strengthen cooperation across various sectors.

Justice Ministry consults lawyers in drafting new Lawyers’ Law


Manama, The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Endowments expressed its appreciation to lawyers for their extensive and constructive contribution to the initial draft of the new Lawyers’ Law.

Counsellor Dr. Mohammed Ahmed Ali Muqbil, Assistant Undersecretary for State Cases and International Cooperation at the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs, and Endowments, highlighted the ministry’s commitment to thoroughly reviewing input from lawyers regarding the initial draft of the Lawyers’ Law. This effort aims to create a modern legal framework that aligns with sustainable development principles.

Dr. Muqbil also highlighted the efforts of the Bahrain Bar Society in initiating consultations with lawyers, aiming to benefit from their expertise in legislative and professional development, while taking into account modern trends in legal services and enhancing Bahrain’s competitiveness in this sector.

He emphasised the importance of the partnership with lawyers, who are key partners in the justice system.
He said the ministry was committed to maintaining communication and consultation with them and considering their opinions in the initial draft of the Lawyers’ Law, to assist in preparing a draft that is aligned with the ongoing judicial and legal development in the Kingdom.

ADNOC Gas announces record Q2 net income of $1.19 billion


Abu Dhabi, ADNOC Gas announced strong financial results for the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, posting an adjusted net income of $1,190 million, a 21% year-on-year (y-o-y) improvement exceeding market expectations.

Revenues for the Q2 period of $6,076 million are an increase of 13% y-o-y. Within the UAE, increased population and industrial growth have contributed to stronger sales for the domestic gas business.

ADNOC Gas fulfils more than 60% of the UAE’s gas demand and is fuelling the development of key industrial sectors, including the growth of petrochemicals.

Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortisation (EBITDA) growth outpaced revenue improvement during the quarter, reaching $2,086 million, an 18% y-o-y increase.

The company’s EBITDA margin of 34% is underpinned by high sales demand and the benefits of its long-duration gas supply and purchase agreement and ADNOC Gas’ integral role in powering and enabling the UAE’s Industrial diversification and growth, the Emirates News Agency (WAM)
reported.

Dr. Ahmed Al Ebri, CEO of ADNOC Gas, said, “Our robust Q2 results clearly reflect our focus on growth, significantly strengthening revenues and profitability while continuing to maintain a healthy margin. The 21% improvement in Q2 net profit underlines our commitment to enhancing our performance, implementing efficiencies, and optimising costs.”

ADNOC Gas has announced an increase in its annual dividend per share by 5%, aligning with its dividend policy to distribute a total of $3,412 million for the full year (FY) 2024.

The Board of Directors has approved an interim dividend of $1,706 million, scheduled for distribution in September.

The approved interim dividend equals to a dividend per share of 8.164 fils. A planned final dividend also of $1,706 million will be distributed in April 2025, pending approval at the Annual General Meeting.
