2025 UN Ocean Conference Kicks Off in France


Doha: The 2025 UN Ocean Conference kicked off Monday in the French city of Nice, focusing on environmental issues and the preservation of biodiversity. The event runs through June 13, co-hosted by France and Costa Rica.



According to Qatar News Agency, French President Emmanuel Macron called for collective mobilization, affirming that the High Seas Treaty will receive enough ratifications to enter into force. Macron announced commitments from new countries to reach the required threshold of 60 ratifications, explaining that in addition to the 50 ratifications already submitted in recent hours, 15 countries have officially pledged to join.



The British government is expected to announce its intention to ban bottom trawling in 41 protected areas, covering a total of 30,000 square kilometers.
