Doha: Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abu Nada said all of his teammates are ready to perform at their best during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
According to Qatar News Agency, Abu Nada expressed in a video interview released by the Qatar Football Association that qualifying for the World Cup finals for the first time through the qualification process was an incredible feeling. He emphasized the crucial role of the fans in helping the team secure qualification during the Asian playoff matches last October, with their support proving to be pivotal throughout the campaign.
Abu Nada highlighted the objective of participating in the upcoming World Cup, which is to deliver a commendable performance and project an image that reflects the development of Qatari football. The team aims to delight the fans, who view their national team as a source of pride.
Abu Nada also reflected on the honor of representing the national team, recalling the moment he was first selected in 2020. Since then, he has consistently sought to give his utmost in every match. He praised the coaching staff, led by Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui, for their substantial efforts in motivating the players to perform at their best during training and matches.
The coach motivates all squad members to ensure they project the desired image, Abu Nada noted, emphasizing the significant role of fan support during the playoff matches, particularly in the match against the United Arab Emirates. The spectators had a profound impact through their support and encouragement, which he hopes to see continued at the World Cup finals.
As the countdown to the tournament continues, the Qatari team is preparing for their upcoming matches. Qatar will open their campaign against Switzerland on Saturday in San Francisco, then travel to Vancouver to face Canada on June 18, before concluding their group-stage schedule against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Seattle on June 24.
