Doha:Northern Chile: An earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale struck northern Chile on Tuesday.
According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 122 kilometers.
Chile's geographical location along the Ring of Fire makes it susceptible to frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. In 2010, a significant 8.8-magnitude earthquake, followed by a tsunami, devastated central and southern Chile, resulting in approximately 500 fatalities.
