5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes South Sandwich Islands


Doha: An earthquake measuring 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Thursday the South Sandwich Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic Ocean.



According to Qatar News Agency, the epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of 100.8 km, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.



There were no reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake.



The South Sandwich Islands are an archipelago that is part of the South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, an overseas territory of the United Kingdom.
