5.6-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Fiji Islands

Fiji: An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale struck on Tuesday in the Fiji islands in the south Pacific Ocean.

According to Qatar News Agency, the US Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake occurred east of the Fiji islands, at a depth of 589.1 km.

There have been no reports of casualties or material damage due to the earthquake so far.

Fiji experiences frequent seismic activity as it lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire, a major area of tectonic activity.
