6.1-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Western Turkey

Balikesir: A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Balikesir province in western Turkey this evening. The tremor was felt across several cities, including Istanbul and Izmir, spreading concern among residents.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Turkish Disaster Management Agency reported that the earthquake hit the Sindirig district at a depth of 11 kilometers. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or material damage at this time.

Two years prior, Turkey experienced two catastrophic earthquakes in the Kahramanmaras province, which registered magnitudes of 7.7 and 7.6. These earthquakes had a devastating impact, affecting 11 provinces and resulting in the deaths of over 53,000 people, with approximately 107,000 others injured. The disasters disrupted the lives and livelihoods of 14 million citizens.
