7 Migrants Dead, 50 Rescued off Libya’s Coast

Libya: The Italian NGO Emergency said Monday that seven migrants died and two others were left in critical condition after a two-level wooden boat carrying 50 survivors was rescued off the Libyan coast. The rescue ship Life Support found the overcrowded boat in international waters. Nine people were found unconscious, while seven had suffocated in the lower compartment due to a lack of oxygen. The two survivors in critical condition were evacuated for urgent medical care.

According to Qatar News Agency, the survivors said the boat departed from the Libyan coastal town of Zuwara early Sunday. The group included 45 men and five women, including 29 unaccompanied minors. Italy's Interior Ministry reported that 17,800 migrants have arrived in Italy since January, compared with 39,116 during the same period in 2025.
