Advisor to Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Holds Talks with Belgian Officials on Key Issues

Brussels: Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, engaged in discussions with several high-ranking Belgian officials during a meeting at the Belgian foreign affairs ministry. The meeting included HE Director-General of Bilateral Relations Brigitte Stevens, HE Director of the Middle East and North Africa Region Directorate Francois Cornet d'Elzius, and HE Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region, Marc Pecsteen, as well as HE Deputy Chief of Cabinet and Diplomatic Advisor to HM the King of Belgium, Eugene Crijns.

According to Qatar News Agency, the discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Qatar and Belgium, especially in the political, economic, and energy sectors. Both parties expressed a commitment to elevating bilateral relations to better serve the aspirations and interests of both nations.

The meeting also addressed pressing regional and international issues, including the situation in the Gaza Strip. Both parties emphasized the significance of continuing efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis, ensuring that aid reaches those in need in compliance with international law.

Discussions on Syria highlighted the importance of supporting the Syrian population amid growing economic difficulties, particularly following the EU's decision to lift sanctions on certain sectors. Both sides stressed the need for effective distribution of financial and humanitarian aid.

On Iran, both parties reiterated their backing for international de-escalation efforts and underlined the importance of mediation to bring Iran and the United States closer.

In relation to the Great Lakes Region, Belgian officials acknowledged Qatar's significant role in mediating between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, expressing Belgium's willingness to support these peace and stability efforts.

The Belgian officials also praised Qatar's role in mediating for a ceasefire in Gaza and its success in reuniting children with their families, as part of efforts to mitigate the humanitarian impacts of the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

The discussions were attended by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Khalid bin Fahad Al Hajri.
