Algerian Foreign Ministry Summons French Envoy Over Extended Detention of Consular Staffer

Algiers: The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the French charge d’affaires in Algiers Thursday to protest the extension of the detention of an Algerian consular employee in France.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Foreign Ministry stated in a press release that the French diplomat was firmly reminded that the Algerian consular employee has been under provisional detention for a year since last April, despite having legal protections under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations.

The statement added that the decision was “difficult to justify or accept.”
