Arab Forum for Environment Starts in Muscat

Cairo, The second annual Arab Forum for Environment (AFEN 2023) started on Wednesday, themed “Together We Face Climate Challenges to Ensure Water and Food Security."

The forum is hosted by the Omani capital, Muscat, with a joint organization between the General Secretariat of the Arab League and the UN Environment Program in West Asia, with the participation of experts, researchers, and specialists in the field of the environment.

The Arab League Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs sector, Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Malki, said in a statement Wednesday that the two-day forum will discuss the challenges, opportunities, and solutions to ensure the progress of the Arab region towards achieving the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, especially with regard to goals related to climate, water, and food.

The AFEN was established in pursuance of the decision of the Council of Arab Ministers Responsible for the Environment on October 14, 2021. The council assigned the technical secretariat to coordinate with Arab and international institutions wishing to participate in the event and its organization.
