Arab League Asserts Palestinian Nakba Will Not Be Repeated Amid Displacement Concerns

Doha: The Arab League confirmed that the recent statements by Israeli Prime Minister regarding what he called voluntary departure of residents from Gaza Strip clearly reveal the nature of the Israeli plan and its objectives. It emphasized that the Palestinian people will not allow a second Nakba, whether under the guise of voluntary or forced displacement.

According to Qatar News Agency, Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmad Aboul Gheit, highlighted during his meeting on Thursday with Palestinian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Mustafa, the Arab consensus on rejecting any tampering with the fundamental aspects of the Palestinian cause, most important of which is the people’s right to remain on their land and their right to self-determination. This is particularly critical in light of threats facing the Palestinian cause, especially internationally and Arab-rejected scenario of displacement.

Mustafa presented plans and programs to deal with the catastrophic situation in Gaza to implement urgent relief and early recovery, paving the way for reconstruction. Aboul Gheit pointed out that these plans cannot be executed as long as the Palestinian people remain on their land. He emphasized that what is needed at this stage is a firm ceasefire, entry of urgent humanitarian aid, and assisting population in gradually restoring normal life to thwart the Israeli plan to make Gaza Strip uninhabitable.
