Doha: The Arab League emphasized its commitment to advancing consumer rights protection in Arab countries through the adoption of a guide to consumer protection laws within the framework of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA).
According to Qatar News Agency, in a statement on the occasion of Arab Consumer Protection Week, held annually in March, HE Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the Arab League Ambassador Ali bin Ibrahim Al Malki said that the consumer protection law guidance manual is the first legislative framework to assist Arab countries in preparing or improving their national legislative frameworks for consumer protection.
In this context, he noted the adoption of a cooperation protocol in the field of consumer protection among Arab countries to enhance coordination between them. He pointed out that the adoption of the Arab Consumer Protection Week aims to raise awareness of consumer rights, disseminate a culture of sustainable consumption, and unify efforts and activities across the Arab region.
He underscored that there are ongoing efforts in coordination with member states to exchange best practices in the field of consumer protection.
World Consumer Protection Day 2025 will be held under the theme “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles,” which includes championing the legitimate needs of consumers, including access to basic needs such as food and energy, protecting people’s health and safety, and making sustainable and healthy choices available and affordable to all.
