Arab League Hails Lebanon-Israel Ceasefire, Pushes for Gaza Agreement.

Beirut: The Arab League has expressed its approval of the newly established ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel, emphasizing the urgent need for similar diplomatic efforts to be directed towards achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. According to Qatar News Agency, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit highlighted the significance of the agreement, describing it as a crucial step towards restoring peace and preventing further bloodshed. He urged for the full and precise implementation of the ceasefire, allowing Lebanon to recover swiftly, while acknowledging the mediation role played by the United States in facilitating the agreement. Aboul Gheit further insisted on the importance of completing the Israeli withdrawal from all Lebanese territories promptly, which would pave the way for displaced individuals to return to their homes. He underscored the necessity of adhering to all aspects of Security Council Resolution No. 1701. The Secretary-General also reflected on the severe impact of the conflict on the Lebanese population, which resulted in thousands of civilian casualties and extensive damage to infrastructure. He noted that the ceasefire presents a critical opportunity for Lebanon to address its internal political challenges, particularly the prolonged presidential vacancy exceeding two years.
