Doha: The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has announced the completion of the first phase of rehabilitation and improvement works on Corniche Street. A statement from the authority revealed that this phase extended from Sharq Interchange to the Old Port Interchange. The initiative is part of Ashghal’s commitment to enhancing the driving experience, facilitating mobility, and improving infrastructure efficiency for the benefit of all road users.
According to Qatar News Agency, the works will necessitate implementing several temporary traffic closures on parts of Corniche during the upcoming weekends. This measure is essential for Ashghal’s team to complete the repaving of the asphalt layer on Corniche, aligning with the road development and improvement plan. The statement highlighted that these partial closures would occur during night hours on weekdays to remove the old asphalt layer. A complete closure will follow during the weekend to lay the new asphalt and renew road markings. The project will proceed in five successive stages, starting from Sharq Interchange and extending to Sheraton Interchange, with each stage addressing a specific section of the road weekly.
To facilitate movement and ensure traffic safety, Ashghal has coordinated closely with the General Directorate of Traffic. They have provided alternative routes and installed clear, dynamic signboards for road users. Additionally, Ashghal has launched a media campaign through its social media platforms to inform the public about the closures, using maps and explanatory videos to provide real-time updates.
Ashghal urges all road users to adhere to the signboards, follow the indicated traffic diversions, and utilize alternative routes. The authority also advises planning trips in advance to avoid temporary congestion. Updates and further information can be accessed through Ashghal’s official WhatsApp channel and its social media platforms.
