Burkina Faso Affirms Readiness to Counter Military Intervention in Niger

Burkina Faso’s Defense Minister Kassoum Coulibaly announced on Saturday that his country is set to support Niger in countering the potential ECOWAS’s military intervention in Niger.

In press statements, Coulibaly said his country is ready to support Niger, adding that Burkina Faso is ready to withdraw from ECOWAS due to its irrational policy towards Niger, warning of the increasing activities of the armed groups in the region as soon as Niger is mired in chaos which will ultimately lead to creating conducive environments for armed movements, he added.

Following the conclusion of ECOWAS military leaders’ summit, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Abdel Fattah Musa said any intervention to restore the constitutional order in Niger will be short, adding that the states concurred in the intervention requirements in Niger.
