Doha: HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet's regular meeting held at the Amiri Diwan. Following the meeting, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi shared insights into the discussions and decisions taken.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Cabinet began the meeting by lauding the speech of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani at the United Nations General Assembly's 80th session in New York. His Highness emphasized the international community's responsibilities, advocating for adherence to the United Nations' founding principles and the reinforcement of the collective security system. The Cabinet highlighted the Amir's focus on the Israeli aggression against Qatar and the ongoing conflict with the Palestinian people, underscoring the true objectives of Israel's policies.
Furthermore, the Cabinet expressed pride in Qatar's commitment to international values and its role in resolving global crises. The Amir's affirmation that peace in the region hinges on resolving the Palestinian issue was noted with approval. The Cabinet also recognized Doha's role as a global hub for major political, economic, and sporting events, and its dedication to fostering dialogue and solutions to global challenges.
The Cabinet praised the Amir's participation in conferences aimed at peacefully settling the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the two-state solution. They also welcomed the positive outcomes of the Amir's visit to Jordan, which strengthened bilateral relations and cooperation with the Hashemite Kingdom.
In terms of legislative action, the Cabinet approved a draft law to amend provisions concerning the strategic stock of food and consumer goods, aiming to enhance food security and stock management efficiency. Additionally, they sanctioned changes to the Ministry of Finance's organizational structure, introducing new departments focused on information security and the fourth industrial revolution.
The Cabinet also decided to join various international initiatives, including the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime and the Global Coalition for Social Justice. They endorsed agreements involving the Qatar Fund for Development with multiple international organizations and approved an air services agreement with Uganda.
Financial oversight was addressed as the Cabinet reviewed audited financial statements of the Qatar Financial Centre Regulatory Authority and the Qatar International Court, along with their annual activity reports.
The meeting concluded with the Cabinet considering reports on international engagements, including participation in the SelectUSA Investment Summit and the Qatar-Greece Joint Commission for Economic and Technical Cooperation, taking appropriate decisions based on these assessments.
