Pretoria: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced today that the African Super Cup match between South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns and Algeria's USM Alger will be held on November 8 in South Africa. According to Qatar News Agency, Sundowns, the CAF Champions League winners, will face USM Alger, the CAF Confederation Cup champions, in a single match that pits the champions of the two continental competitions against each other for the African Super Cup title. The match will be held at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria, where both teams are looking to add another continental title to their collections and further solidify their presence on the African stage. Sundowns won the CAF Champions League title last season for the second time in their history, after defeating Morocco's FAR Rabat 2-1 on aggregate in the two-legged final, confirming their status as one of the continent's top clubs in recent years. Meanwhile, USM Alger won the CAF Confederation Cup title after defeating Zamalek of Egypt 8 -7 on penalties, following a two-legged tie, thus securing their place in the CAF Super Cup. Both teams have previous experience in the CAF Super Cup, with Mamelodi Sundowns winning the title in 2017 and USM Alger in 2023. This adds extra significance to the upcoming match, as both teams aim to claim the title for the second time in their history. In related news, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has set the dates for the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup. The first leg matches of the preliminary round will be played between September 4th and 6th, 2026, with the return legs scheduled for September 11th to 13th. CAF also confirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027, with qualifying matches beginning in September.
