41st Annual Conference of Syrian Society of Ophthalmologists kicks off in Damascus


Damascus, With the participation of more than 25 physicians from Arab and foreign countries, the 41st Annual Conference of the Syrian Society of Ophthalmologists was launched Wednesday, at Damascus-based Sheraton Hotel.

Delivering a speech during the conference, the Minister of Health, Hassan al-Ghabash, said that the Ministry pays a great attention to sponsoring conferences and scientific demonstrations as a means of communication and concerted efforts, which opens the door wide for exchanging experiences, information and ideas, and learning about what is new in ophthalmology.

The conference aims at advancing expertise to international levels in the diagnosis and treating various eye diseases, along with the development of practice techniques in a way that contributes to enhancing medical services provided to citizens, he added.

Minister al-Ghabash noted that the number of services in ophthalmology provided for free or almost free of charge last year amounted to approximately 100.000 including more than
11.000 surgical operations throughout 29 hospitals.

A large number of Ophthalmologists are participating in the 3-day conference, along with external participation via the Internet.

The conference is accompanied by a medical exhibition including the latest medical devices and technologies related to eye diseases and surgery, in addition to products of many pharmaceutical companies.

It was attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Bassam Ibrahim.

Ministry of Education and Higher Education Honors Winners of Tafsir Competition

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education honored the winners of the fifth edition of a competition for tafsir for students, organized by Ahmed Mansour Primary School for Boys in collaboration with Al Bayan Primary School for Girls. The aim was to instill educational and religious values in the minds of students.

This year, 208 government and private schools participated in the competition, including 97 boys schools and 111 girls schools. The top five winners, totaling 21 students, were honored, along with 6 outstanding students for their performance. Additionally, the competition recognized 53 participants, judges, and educational supervisors in the field of Islamic education.

The competition aims to promote and deepen students’ understanding of Quranic verses prescribed in the Islamic education curriculum for fifth and sixth graders in government and private schools.

QatarDebate Organizes 5th Debate Capacity Building Program in New York

Doha: QatarDebate organized the 5th Debate Capacity Building Program at Colombia University, in New York City, in collaboration with the US Arabic Debate Union, a QatarDebate initiative.

The program was held to support and sustain the work of the US Arabic Debate Union, engaging in this edition 40 participants from 50 prestigious educational institutions.

The Debate Capacity Building Program focuses on enhancing participants’ fundamental skills with regard to training, teaching, community participation, effective debate tournament organization, and the union’s managerial matters, in addition to empowering a selected group of participants in leading debate activities in the Arabic language in the United States.

Instructed by trainers Saad Al Assad and Mohamed Abu Sneineh, the 5th Debate Capacity Building Program included discussions of the unions annual plans, as well as debating advanced workshops, arbitration, and skill training, in addition to organizational skills training meant to equip participants w
ith the set of skills needed to successfully and independently hold debate programs and events all year long to maintain continuity.

Commenting on the program’s significance, QatarDebate Programs Director Abdulrahman Al Subaie said that this capacity-building program manifests QatarDebate’s goal of community capacity building and expanding its network in the US and the world as a whole.

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Receives Phone Call from Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs

Doha: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani received today a telephone call from HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

The call dealt with discussing bilateral cooperation between the two countries and the means to enhance them, in addition to the latest developments in the country, de-escalation, particularly in terms of ending the war in the Gaza Strip and delivering humanitarian aid in the strip.

The Meteorological Department warned of a decrease in horizontal visibility as a result of the formation of fog and clouds touching the Earth’s surface during the hours of the night and early morning, during the coming days.

Under the patronage of HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister, GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre to celebrate 30th anniversary


Manama, Under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, the GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre (GCCCAC) will organise a ceremony on May 7 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of its founding.

Dr. Kamal Al Hamad, Secretary General of the GCCCAC, expressed his thanks and appreciation to HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for his patronage of the event.

Dr. Al Hamad noted that the kingdom’s continued support of the centre has contributed to its success and in building confidence in the GCC as a hub for arbitration and attracting investments.

The Secretary General said in a statement on this occasion that Bahrain has supported the centre since its establishment thirty years ago, highlighting its role in backing the development of the GCC commercial arbitration system. He added that Bahrain’s advanced commercial, arbitration, and legal attributes have created a favourable environment for investments and spreading the culture of Arbitration. T
he Secretary General also commended Bahrain for encouraging the development of a legislative environment that produces advanced and innovative laws.

Dr. Al Hamad highlighted the achievements of the centre over the past decades, as it succeeded in providing a high-level arbitration environment and providing fair and effective solutions to commercial disputes.

He added that the 30th anniversary of the GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre represents an important step in implementing its new strategy to become one of the top 10 global arbitration centres.

KSrelief Delivers 100 Tons of Dates as Gift from Saudi Arabia to Nigeria


Abuja, The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) delivered a gift from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Wednesday, consisting of 100 tons of dates. Representing KSrelief, the Saudi Ambassador to Nigeria, Faisal bin Ibrahim Al-Ghamdi, presented 50 tons of dates to Ambassador Mortada Gomaa, Director of the Middle East and Gulf Department at the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the Saudi Embassy in Abuja.

Additionally, the Saudi Consul General in Kano, Khalil Ahmed Adamawi, handed over another 50 tons of dates to Dr. Abba, the Secretary to the Government of Kano State, in the presence of a team from KSrelief.

This gift forms part of the relief and humanitarian initiatives spearheaded by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, aimed at assisting numerous sisterly and friendly nation
s, providing aid to the most vulnerable families worldwide.

Riyadh: The Saudi Post Corporation (SPL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, has issued a commemorative postage stamp featuring the Saudi Ardah dance. This newly released Ardah postage stamp serves as a representation of the nation’s vibrant cultural heritage, thereby reinforcing its national legacy.

The Saudi Ardah is a collective dance performed by men, symbolizing unity between the leadership and the people. It evokes enthusiasm and reflects an emotional bond, demonstrating love for the land and loyalty to the nation’s leaders. Characterized by joyful and energetic movements, the dance is accompanied by harmonious rhythmic unity. Elevated with prestige and solemnity, it incorporates the national flag and swords, creating a magnificent visual spectacle.

The SPL regularly issues postage stamps to commemorate significant national events, including religious, cultural, artistic, and sports occasions, as well as notable international events. Each stamp serves as a tribute to pivotal moments or imm
