Saudi Arabia Football Team Holds Preparatory Camp in Newcastle for AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023

Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) announced, on Wednesday, that the first football team will hold a preparatory camp in Newcastle, England, during the FIFA International Days in September, in the second phase of the preparatory program for AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.

The team will play 2 friendly matches during its camp, which will be held from Sep. 3-12, the first against Costa Rica national team on Sep. 8, and the second against South Korea national team on Sep. 12.

The Saudi team will compete in the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 in Group F with the teams of Oman, Kyrgyzstan and Thailand. The championship is scheduled from Jan. 12 to Feb. 10, 2024. (QNA)

Football: Arsenal Sign Brentford Goalkeeper

Arsenal announced today that they signed Brentford goalkeeper David Raya on loan, with a view to making the deal permanent at the end of the season.

The 27 year-old joined Brentford from Blackburn in 2019. He played 161 matches in Brentford, was one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League last season.

The loan fee was reportedly 3 million Pound Sterling, with an option to sign the player for an additional 27 million Pound Sterling. (QNA)

Bahrain beats Indonesia 95-72 in FIBA qualifying tournament of Damascus

On the fourth day in Damascus, Bahrain secured a spot in the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments after winning the Group by staying flawless.

Their success was not only founded on their own victory with a day to spare, but also because Saudi Arabia paved the way for them to get it done by beating India earlier in the day.

Bahrain beat Indonesia, 95-72, and successfully qualified for the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.

Dwayne Chism led Bahrain with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and 5 steals. Muzamil Hamooda added 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 triples. Widyanta Putra Teja was the top scorer for Indonesia with 15 points and 3 rebounds.

Bahrain shot 44.8% from beyond the arc, while Indonesia shot just 27.3%. Bahrain also won the rebounding battle 46-38.

With this win, Bahrain is now 4-0 in the tournament. They will face India on Day 5 for a chance to finish with a clean sweep in the competition. Indonesia falls to 1-3 in the tournament. They will face Syria on Day 5.

17 medals for Lattakia athletics team

Lattakia national team won 17 medals in the Elite Junior Athletics Championship competitions that were held in Aleppo in preparation for the next Arab Championship to be held in the Sultanate of Oman.

Lattakia national team gained 17 medals in the junior category for both men and female.

Saudi National Football Team to Gear Up with Preparatory Camp in Newcastle for AFC Asian Cup 2023

The Saudi national football team will conduct a preparatory training camp in Newcastle, England during the upcoming FIFA International Days in September. This camp marks the second phase of the national team’s preparation program for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023, which is scheduled to take place in January.

The Saudi team’s camp, scheduled from September 3rd to September 12th, includes two friendly matches. The first match will be against the Costa Rican national team on September 8th, followed by a friendly game against the South Korean national team on September 12th. Both matches will be played at St. James’ Park, the home stadium of the English club, Newcastle United FC.

In the AFC Asian Cup, the Saudi national team is positioned in Group Six, alongside Oman, Kyrgyzstan, and Thailand.

Bahrain’s National Handball team continues training in preparation for the Asian Games

Bahrain’s National Handball team is continuing to train for the Asian Games, which will be held in China next month.

The training is led by Icelandic manager Aron Kristjánsson and his coaching team consisting of Assistant Coach Asam Abdullah, Goalkeeping Coach Ahmed Mansoor and Fitness Coach Ahmed Al Shaikh.

The training sessions focused on physical training and tactics, especially since the team will take part in a training camp in Europe at the end of August.

The National Handball team were the runners up and silver medalists last year in the Asian Games, which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The team aims to grab the title this season especially after the great results achieved by the team in recent years, mainly at the Tokyo Olympics (Tokyo 2020) which made them one of the 12 best National teams worldwide and an ambassador of the continent in the handball tournament in the Olympics and their results in the previous World Cup.

The team is also preparing to compete in the Asian Qualifiers for the Olympics (Paris 2024), held in Doha,Qatar.

The team will be competing in Group 2 against the likes of Iran, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Japan and Kazakhstan.

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad attends the arrival of Cricket World Cup trophy

His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President attended a celebration organised by the Bahrain Cricket Federation marking the arrival of the 2023 International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup trophy.

Bahrain is hosting the Cricket World Cup trophy as part of the ICC international tour which includes 18 different countries.

The Cricket World Cup will be held on October 5 – November 19 in India.

HH Shaikh Khalid welcomed the arrival of the Cricket World Cup trophy in the Kingdom to promote one of the most important international championships for one of the most popular game around the world, and Asia in particular.

He noted that this tour represents a unique opportunity for cricket fans in Bahrain to take photos with the trophy and join the exciting experience as the launch of this global event gets closer.

HH Shaikh Khalid affirmed that the arrival of the trophy to Bahrain is an opportunity to introduce the Kingdom and its heritage, sports, civilisation, and tourists’ attractions to millions of fans of this game through the media that will cover the arrival of the trophy.

He added that it is an opportunity to strengthen ties with the International Federation that chose Bahrain to be one of the key destinations for promoting the World Championship, which reflects Bahrain’s important sports position in the region.

HH Shaikh Khalid said that hosting the Cricket World Cup trophy world tour affirms the kingdom’s keenness to embrace various sports and support them to become a leading destination for various games.

He wished the International Cricket Federation and India a successful hosting of the next edition of the championship.

Tourism Minister visits Bahrain Olympic Committee

Tourism Minister, Bahrain Tourism and Exhibition Authority (BTEA) Chairperson Fatima bint Jaffar Al Sairafi today paid a visit to the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) headquarters.

She was received by BOC Deputy President His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, in the presence of BTEA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Nasser Qaidi, General Sports Authority (GSA) CEO Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar.

BOC Secretary General Fares Al Kooheji and Bahrain Basketball Association (BBA) Chairman Waleed Al Alawi wered also also present during the meeting.

Al Sairafi stressed the ministry’s commitment to harness all efforts to invest in the hosting of the international basketball tournament FIBA 3 x 3 Basketball to inform delegations about tourism and heritage aspects and promote Bahrain as a tourism destination and major sports hub.

HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa stressed the importance of cooperation with relevant authorities to ensure the success of the event, the first sporting event of its kind in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Bayern Munich sign Harry Kane

FC Bayern have signed Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur. The 30-year-old England striker has agreed terms with the German record champions until 30th June 2027 and will wear the number 9 shirt for the Munich club.

“I’m very happy to be a part of FC Bayern now. Bayern is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I’ve always said that I want to compete and prove myself at the highest level during my career. This club is defined by its winning mentality – it feels very good to be here.”, Kane said in a statement published by Bayern Munich FC on its website.

Kane is captain of England and has 58 goals in 84 full internationals so far, making him his country’s record goalscorer.

Partnership with the private sector crucial for sports development, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad

The private sector is an essential partner in promoting the sports sector, said His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports (SCYS) First Deputy Chairman, General Sports Authority (GSA) Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) President.

He underscored the importance of developing sports facilities and ushering in a new phase in the partnership with the private sector, which would benefit the sports sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad was speaking as he received representatives of the private sector companies and establishments to update them on plans to launch the nominal sponsorship of sports facilities and continue the neighbourhood stadiums.

Present were Cabinet Affairs Ministry Undersecretary, BOC Deputy President HH Shaikh Isa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Information Minister Dr. Ramzan bin Abdulla Alnoaimi, Industry and Commerce Minister Abdulla bin Adel Fakhro, GSA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdulrahman Sadiq Askar, Economic Development Board CEO Khalid Humaidan, Labour Fund (Tamkeen) CEO Maha Mufeez, and BOC Secretary General Fares Mustafa Al Kooheji.

HH Shaikh Khalid stressed GSA’s plans to develop sports facilities through sponsorship projects with the private sector and continue developing neighborhood stadiums.
