Qatar: Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU-Q), a Qatar Foundation partner university, celebrated a historic milestone with the largest incoming class in campus history during the Class of 2030 Convocation Ceremony. The event, held as part of Orientation Week, serves as an official welcome for new students, allowing them to meet faculty members, understand academic expectations, and familiarize themselves with the array of resources available at CMU-Q.
According to Qatar News Agency, CMU-Q expanded its first-year class to 140 seats for this academic year. The university received a record-breaking 3,100 applications, highlighting its growing appeal. The diverse cohort includes students from 36 nations, with CMU-Q welcoming its first-ever students from Honduras and South Sudan.
"Students, tonight you are wearing the robes and tartan stoles of Carnegie Mellon University to symbolize that you are now part of our community," stated Michael Trick, dean of CMU-Q. "Class of 2030, it is my pleasure to welcome you-officially-to Carnegie Mellon University."
The Convocation Ceremony is a significant tradition marking the start of a student's academic journey at CMU-Q. The event was hosted by computer science student Junaid Yusuf, and senior associate dean for education, Dudley Reynolds, introduced the faculty and leadership team to the new students.
CMU-Q offers undergraduate degree programs in various fields, including artificial intelligence, biological sciences, business administration, computer science, and information systems. Applications for the cohort beginning in the fall of 2027 opened on September 1.
