Committee on AI in Sports holds its first meeting

Under the directives of His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, General Sports Authority Chairman, and Bahrain Olympic Committee President, the Artificial Intelligence sport committee held its first meeting to discuss recommendations made by the Bahraini Sports Summit 2023.

The meeting was held virtually was attended by Dr. Jassim Haji, President of the International Group of Artificial Intelligence (IGOAI); Anthony Cioppa (Belgium), Postdoctoral Researcher in Computer Vision and Deep Learning; Badr Boussabat, President of AI TOGETHER AI Coach (Belgium); Chan Yeob Yeun, Associate Professor at Khalifa University (UAE); and Pedro Fernandez Mestriner (Spain), CEO of Horizm.

The committee members expressed their appreciation for the efforts led by HH Shaikh Khalid and the keenness on integrating AI in Bahraini sports.

The President of the IGOAI announced that under the patronage of HH Shaikh Khalid, the first AI conference for people of determination will be held this year.

This conference which is the first of its kind aims to recognise and encourage achievements and innovations in the field of AI related to people of determination in the sports field, he added.

The upcoming conference reflects Bahrain’s commitment to promoting inclusiveness and empowering all segments of society in the field of sports, and to enhance the applications of AI in the sports field, and strengthen its regional position in this field.

The meeting proposed analysing visual and written data in local football competitions using Soccer Net, aiming to develop artificial intelligence capabilities and future predictions.

The importance of Bahrain's partnership with European AI experts was highlighted.

The committee recommended applying AI in sports, implementing Bahraini Sports Summit outcomes, and discussing preparations for Bahrain's third AI conference to enhance the Bahrain's status in hosting sports conferences in the region
