CRA Enhances Qatar Domains Registry Policies for Improved Digital Security

Doha:The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has introduced updated policies for the Qatar Domains Registry, effective from October 22, 2026, coinciding with the launch of a new domain registry system.

According to Qatar News Agency, the revised policies are designed to bolster the security and reliability of Qatar’s national domain names (.qa) and (ÞØÑ.), streamline registration and management processes, and offer increased flexibility and clarity for individuals, businesses, and government entities within Qatar.

One significant change in the updated policies is the extension of the maximum domain name registration period from five to ten years, providing domain holders with greater management flexibility. The updates also set regulations for registration, renewal, transfer, and recovery procedures, clarify the rights and responsibilities of domain holders, and enhance the protection of their registration information.

Further, the revisions introduce more precise eligibility requirements to curb domain name misuse, identity impersonation, and phishing activities. Ali Al Suwaidi, Director of the Technical Affairs Department at CRA, noted that the updates aim to create a safer and more reliable digital environment for individuals and businesses while simplifying the management of national domain names to better serve their needs. These changes are also intended to support the sustainability of Internet infrastructure and the growth of Qatar's digital economy, aligning with the Digital Agenda 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030.
