Death Toll from Caracas Earthquakes Rises to 589

Doha: Venezuela's Acting President Delcy Rodriguez announced that the death toll from the two earthquakes that struck Caracas has risen to 589, as rescue teams continue searching for survivors.

According to Qatar News Agency, authorities declared a state of emergency following the 7.2 and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes, which caused extensive damage, shut down Maiquetia International Airport, and were followed by around 20 aftershocks.

The tremors were also felt in neighboring Colombia and as far as Brazil's Amazon region.
