According to Qatar News Agency, Argentine President Javier Milei announced that "All areas of the national government will remain dedicated... to assisting the victims in this moment of sorrow for all Argentines." For his part, the city's mayor Federico Susbielles announced that the floods caused material damage estimated at 370 million euros.
Local authorities have received more than 100 alerts for missing persons following the storm that hit the city, which includes one of Argentina's main ports, located 600 km south of Buenos Aires.
Argentina has experienced severe weather events before. At the end of 2023, a violent storm with heavy rains and winds of up to 150 km/h killed 13 people when the roof of a sports club collapsed.
