Drone Explodes Near Gas Pipeline in Bulgaria

Doha: Prime Minister of Bulgaria Rumen Radev announced that a drone entered Bulgarian airspace Saturday morning and exploded near the border with Romania and the gas pipeline linking Turkiye to Ukraine through the Balkans.

According to Qatar News Agency, the drone exploded approximately 1,000 meters from a gas pumping station belonging to the Trans-Balkan Pipeline, near the Kardam border crossing with Romania in the northeastern part of the country, close to the Black Sea.

In a video posted by the Bulgarian government on social media, Radev stated that the drone was carrying a large quantity of explosives, yet that the incident caused no casualties.

In recent months, drone-related incidents have increased in Eastern European countries that are members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), which support Ukraine in confronting Russia.
