Earthquake Strikes Off Kamchatka Peninsula in Eastern Russia

An earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude on the Richter scale shook Monday the coasts of the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula.

According to the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the epicenter of the earthquake occurred off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, at a depth of 150 km.

On June 9, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck the eastern coast of the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula, at a depth of 51.2 km.

The Kamchatka Peninsula is located above the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area that witnesses great seismic and volcanic activity.
