Egypt Calls for Israeli Withdrawal from Gaza and Reaffirms Support for Palestinian Statehood

Doha: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized the urgent need for a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid, and the rejection of any efforts to annex the West Bank or displace Palestinians from their land. Speaking during a policy dialogue at the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI) in Paris, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s longstanding position in support of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, chiefly the establishment of an independent state based on the June 4, 1967, borders with East Jerusalem as its capital-the only viable path to achieving just and lasting peace in the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, Abdelatty also called on the international community to uphold its moral responsibility by pressuring Israel to allow humanitarian access into Gaza. Abdelatty welcomed the peace efforts led by former US President Donald Trump and highlighted Egypt’s training of Palestinian security forces as part of broader support for strengthening governance in Gaza.

On regional matters, the minister confirmed Egypt’s continued efforts to support stability in Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, and Somalia. Regarding the Iranian nuclear file, Abdelatty said Egyptian diplomacy played a key role in facilitating the agreement recently signed in Cairo between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to resume technical cooperation.

On water security, the Egyptian Foreign Minister reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to international law in managing Nile Basin resources, rejecting any unilateral measures in the Eastern Nile region, and stressing that Egypt will take all necessary steps to safeguard its water security.
