Endowments Directorate Strengthens Partnership with QDA for Children’s Diabetes Care

Doha: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs continues to support the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) as part of its societal partnership, aimed at enhancing the quality of life for patients, particularly children with diabetes, through the Waqf Bank for Health Care.

According to Qatar News Agency, Director General of the General Administration of Endowments at Awqaf, Eng. Hassan Abdullah Al Marzouqi, stated that 146 children had benefited from the Waqf bank offered in 2024, affirming that 21 children benefited from insulin pumps, whilst 125 others received the continuous glucose monitor (CGM) Freestyle devices.

Citing the Prophetic Hadith in this regard, Al Marzouqi emphasized that the Waqf Bank is a core pillar in the community, representing continuous charity, highlighting that the support provided by the QDA aligns with the directives of esteemed benefactors who have stipulated that the proceeds from their endowments be allocated for the benefit of needy patients, thereby strengthening social solidarity and upholding the principles of compassion and cooperation within the community.

The close partnership with QDA has started since 2014 and continued until today, demonstrating the ironclad relationship between the two sides, along with the importance of joint efforts in supporting the needy segments, Al Marzouqi underlined.

He emphasized that Islam has been giving foremost priority to patients’ rights for centuries, with Muslims establishing hospitals (“Bimaristans”) and subsequently dedicating the endowments to ensuring the continuation of healthcare, the approach that Qatari endowments pursue today through a range of initiatives.

Al Marzouqi underlined the General Directorate of Endowments’ unwavering commitment to supporting this kind of humanitarian initiatives that boost social interdependence and contribute to enhancing the patients’ life.

He called for further societal engagement in supporting the health endowments to make sure that they continue to serve patients and those in need.

Executive Director of QDA, Dr. Abdullah Al Hamaq, applauded this initiative that has tangibly contributed to improving patients’ lives, particularly children, helping them acclimatize to their health and social conditions.

He likewise lauded the efforts of the esteemed benefactors who dedicated their funds to various endowment institutions, including the endowment fund for healthcare.

He added that this constant support helps provide patients, especially children, with the best medical technologies such as insulin pumps and CGM, which facilitate the control of blood sugar levels and reduce their daily suffering.
