EU Stresses Importance of Economic Corridor Project Connecting India, Middle East, and Europe

The European Union (EU) has underscored the significance of the economic corridor project linking India, the Middle East, and Europe, which was announced during the G20 summit in New Delhi last Saturday.

The European Commissioner for Economic Affairs, Paolo Gentiloni, responded to a query from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) in Brussels, stating that the project represents a robust connection between the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East and stands as a major strategic initiative. He further emphasized the importance of the announcement in New Delhi, highlighting the participation of Saudi Arabia, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and several EU member states as a significant development.

In addition, the spokesperson for the European Neighborhood Policy, Ana Pisonero, expressed that the economic corridor marks a crucial shift and is closely tied to substantial investments and an ambitious infrastructure plan. She noted that the Commission views itself as one of the project’s sponsors, alongside Saudi Arabia, the US, India, and other participating nations.

Furthermore, Pisonero mentioned that detailed preparations are underway to formulate the plan. This comprehensive endeavour involves the construction of railways and numerous ports in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, as well as a substantial increase in investments in the energy sector, including the production and transportation of green hydrogen. The plan also aims to strengthen the communication sector and enhance digital data transmission capabilities.
