France Increases Support for Ebola Fight in DR Congo as Death Toll Exceeds 4,000

Bunia:France has announced plans to enhance its support for efforts to control the Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, where the death toll has now surpassed 4,000.

According to Qatar News Agency, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, during his visit to Bunia, the capital of Ituri province, stated that France intends to propose additional humanitarian funding to combat Ebola during the forthcoming French budget discussions.

Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of Congo have reported 8,376 cases since the outbreak was declared on May 15, with more than 4,000 resulting in fatalities.

From January through July, France allocated 13.4 million euros to the Ebola response in the region. Barrot emphasized the potential for the outbreak to resurge and highlighted the importance of bolstering efforts to prevent new waves of the disease.
