Doha: HE Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi welcomed the recent signing of a peace agreement between the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He praised the roles played by the United States of America and the State of Qatar in facilitating this development.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Secretary General expressed hope that this agreement will help end ongoing tensions and fulfill the aspirations of the populations in both countries for security and stability. He emphasized the potential for the agreement to support prosperity and development pathways in the region while enhancing opportunities for regional and international peace and security.
His Excellency acknowledged the positive and expanding influence of GCC countries in supporting peaceful solutions globally. He highlighted the Council's unwavering commitment to diplomatic approaches and dialogue, viewing these as essential tools for addressing international and regional crises and achieving sustainable development.
The peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda was signed in Washington, DC. This development raises hopes for an end to the conflict that has resulted in the deaths of thousands and the displacement of hundreds of thousands since the start of the year.
