German Chancellor: Russian-Ukrainian War Causing Extensive Damage to Global Economy

Johannesburg: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called for an immediate end to the Russian-Ukrainian war, affirming that its continuation worsens global conditions and causes extensive damage to the world economy. Germany’s public radio quoted Merz as saying in his speech at the G20 summit held in Johannesburg, South Africa, that Moscow must end the war so that the world could regain economic and security stability.

According to Qatar News Agency, the German government stated that the country’s participation in the summit comes at a highly complex international moment. It noted that Berlin is focusing its contributions on strengthening multilateral cooperation, developing economic partnerships with African countries, as well as supporting just energy-transition initiatives and securing vital raw-material supply chains.

The statement added that Germany views the G20 summit as a key framework for addressing global economic challenges. It emphasized that Berlin will continue pushing for solutions based on international cooperation and respect for the United Nations Charter.
