German President Optimistic About Resolving Trade Differences with China

Beijing:German President Frank Walter Steinmeier expressed optimism regarding the resolution of trade differences between Germany and China through continued diplomatic and economic dialogue. He emphasized China’s role as Germany's largest trading partner.

According to Qatar News Agency, Steinmeier, during discussions with Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing, cited the recent agreement on limiting Chinese exports of hybrid vehicles to the European Union as an example of potential solutions to trade issues.

Steinmeier also addressed the growing trade imbalance, highlighting that China's trade surplus with Germany reached approximately EUR 90 billion last year. He stated that his visit aims to maintain and enhance the conditions for strong economic exchanges between the two countries, underscoring their mutual commitment to addressing challenges through dialogue and cooperation.

This visit marks Steinmeier's first official trip to China in nearly eight years. The agenda includes meetings with senior Chinese officials to discuss bilateral relations, with a focus on trade and economic ties, and to address key regional and international issues of mutual interest.
