Global Food Prices Dip in September, FAO Reports

Rome: The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) announced Friday that global food commodity prices declined in September, driven primarily by falling sugar and dairy prices.

According to Qatar News Agency, FAO’s monthly Food Price Index showed that the average reading for September stood at 128.8 points, a decrease from 129.7 points in August. Despite the monthly drop, the index experienced a 3.4% increase compared to the same month last year.

In a separate report, FAO adjusted its forecast for global cereal production in 2025, projecting an output of 2.971 billion tonnes. This represents an increase of 3.8% over the previous year, marking the largest annual rise since 2013. The surge in production is attributed to higher outputs of wheat, maize, and rice.
