Doha: In an editorial titled “HamasSpound ¦ Political Awareness and National Maturity,” Al-Raya emphasized the significant diplomatic approach taken by Hamas in response to US President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The editorial highlighted that Hamas’s response, conveyed through mediators after thorough consultations, illustrates the movement’s commitment to balancing resistance with the complex regional and international dynamics they face.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya also acknowledged Qatar’s endorsement of Hamas’s announcement. Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed Qatar’s support for the peace initiative and Hamas’s willingness to safely release hostages as outlined in the exchange framework. This approach aims to achieve swift outcomes to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.
Additionally, another Qatari daily, The Peninsula, in an editorial titled “Great Hope for Gazans,” reflected on the optimism sparked by a meeting held during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. This meeting, involving eight Arab and Muslim leaders and President Trump, led to the presentation of a comprehensive 20-point peace plan. The plan has garnered widespread approval across the Arab and Muslim world.
The Peninsula noted that with Israel’s indication of acceptance, the focus shifted to Hamas’s partial acceptance of the plan, which involved the release of captives and a proposed transition of administrative control. This move was met with positive reactions globally. Qatar, having played a vital role in facilitating negotiations, reiterated its support for the initiative, with Dr. Al Ansari calling for an immediate ceasefire to enable the safe release of hostages and halt the bloodshed in Gaza.
The editorial concluded that nations like Egypt, Turkiye, and Pakistan, along with other peace-loving countries, have welcomed the plan, fostering hope for an end to the long-standing and devastating conflict.
