HH the Amir’s Participation in G20 Summit Reflects Doha’s Rising Diplomatic Influence, Qatar’s Ambassador to South Africa Tells QNA

Johannesburg: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's participation at the G20 Summit in Johannesburg underscores Qatar's growing profile on the global diplomatic stage, according to HE Qatar's ambassador to South Africa.

According to Qatar News Agency, HE Ambassador Mubarak bin Nasser Al Khalifa stated that His Highness's engagement in the summit as a guest of honor reflects Qatar's emergence as one of the most distinguished destinations in global diplomacy, citing Doha's expanding role in international mediation.

The ambassador noted that Qatar has brokered dialogue in multiple regional and international disputes, working - at the request of concerned parties - to bring opposing sides to the table without interfering in domestic affairs. These efforts, he said, have contributed to international peace and security while reinforcing Qatar's influence in economic, political, and development issues worldwide.

Al Khalifa added that Qatar's foreign policy is rooted in dialogue and partnership, describing HH the Amir's participation in the G20 Summit as evidence of the country's commitment to constructive engagement and to advancing a more sustainable and equitable global future.

He said the summit offers an important platform for exchanging views on strengthening global cooperation to address shared challenges such as sustainable development, clean energy, food security, and building more resilient and inclusive economies.

According to the ambassador, Qatar's balanced foreign policy has positioned it as a trusted and influential partner in international forums. HH the Amir's presence at the G20, he said, will further reinforce this standing and open new avenues of cooperation with major economic powers, while demonstrating Qatar's support for dialogue and multilateralism.

Al Khalifa also highlighted the significance of Africa hosting the G20 Summit for the first time, calling it an opportunity to deepen cooperation between Qatar, African nations, and the wider world. He stressed the importance of amplifying African voices on issues such as sustainable development, the digital economy, and the transition to green energy.

Despite being home to some of the world's fastest-growing economies, he noted, African countries continue to face unique challenges, including climate change, development gaps, and the effects of global trade dynamics.

The ambassador concluded by saying that HH the Amir's participation would help strengthen Qatar's political, economic, diplomatic and cultural ties worldwide, while further deepening its partnership with South Africa. He emphasized that the two countries share common views on many regional and international issues, and that their economic and cultural links continue to expand - making Qatar's presence in South Africa both active and warmly welcomed at official and public levels.
