Damascus: The Higher Committee for the Elections of the People’s Assembly in Syria announced the final lists of the winners of the Syrian People’s Assembly membership, based on the results of the elections held Sunday across Syrian provinces.
According to Qatar News Agency, the spokesperson for the Higher Committee, Nawwar Najma, confirmed that the electoral process proceeded with integrity and high transparency, noting that the elections were held in 49 constituencies and that the lists of winners have become final after the appeals period ended.
Najma noted that the committee will meet Tuesday to discuss the mechanism for holding the elections in Hasakah, Raqqa, and As-Suwayda, where elections were not held due to security and political conditions. He stressed that holding the elections in Hasakah and Raqqa is contingent on the implementation of the March 10 agreement between Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Regarding expectations for the new Assembly, Najma highlighted that it will be a critical and revolutionary body that believes in the principles of the revolution. The primary role of parliament, he emphasized, is to support and monitor the government during the coming period.
