Hyundai and Kia Surpass 1 Million Electric Vehicle Sales on E-GMP Platform

Seoul: Data from Hyundai Motor and its affiliate Kia showed that their cumulative sales of electric vehicles (EVs) built on a dedicated EV platform exceeded 1 million units in May, despite slowing global demand for electric vehicles.

According to Qatar News Agency, South Korea's News Agency (Yonhap) reported that the two companies' EV passenger vehicle sales reached 1,024,948 units as of last month, based on investor relations data.

Nearly 80 percent of E-GMP-based EVs were sold outside South Korea, highlighting the global reach of these models. The Ioniq 5 emerged as the best-selling model, with a total of 417,000 units sold, reflecting its popularity among consumers.

The combined total cumulative sales of Hyundai and Kia, including EVs not based on the E-GMP platform, reached 2,006,279 units as of last month. This milestone underscores the companies' strategic focus on expanding their EV portfolio and meeting the growing demand for sustainable mobility solutions.
