IAEA: Drone Strike Targets Lab at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant

Zaporizhzhia: The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it had received a report that a drone struck a laboratory at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in southeastern Ukraine.

According to Qatar News Agency, the UN nuclear watchdog stated that it did not yet have confirmed information on the extent of damage to the facility, adding that it was closely monitoring the situation. The agency emphasized that its team on the ground had requested access to the laboratory, reiterating that any attacks near nuclear sites pose potential risks to nuclear safety and security.

Earlier on Sunday, Russia announced that Ukrainian forces had carried out a drone attack on a laboratory at the Moscow-controlled plant. It reported no significant damage or casualties and mentioned that operations at the facility were continuing normally.

The latest incident underscores mounting international concern over safety at the Zaporizhzhia plant-Europe's largest nuclear power station-amid repeated IAEA calls to safeguard nuclear facilities, protect personnel, and prevent military activity that could trigger accidents or radiological incidents.
