Doha:The Music Affairs Center under the Ministry of Culture will host the inaugural performance of the "Maqam" Choir this Saturday at Dukhan Theater, featuring an a cappella vocal showcase.
According to Qatar News Agency, the choir will perform a selection of classic Arab musical heritage using four-part vocal harmonies.
Conductor Sireen Abdullah noted that the "Maqam" choir relies on the human voice as the core element of its musical composition, distributing voices across four harmonic lines to highlight the richness of Arabic melody while preserving its original identity. She explained that the singers were trained to harmonize into a single musical texture while keeping each vocal line distinct.
By emphasizing collective listening and vocal capabilities, the choir offers a renewed perspective on classic Arab musical heritage through four-part a cappella harmony. The initiative aligns with the center's efforts to discover and nurture local vocal talent, giving performers a platform while presenting traditional Arabic music in a renewed artistic form.
