Iraq: Drone Shot Down Over Green Zone, Shrapnel Damages 2 Vehicles

Baghdad: Shrapnel from the interception of a drone over the Green Zone fell in Palestine Street and Sadr City, east of Baghdad, causing material damage to two vehicles without any reported human casualties, an Iraqi security source announced on Wednesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, Head of Defense Iraq's Security Media Cell Lt. Gen. Saad Maan said air systems detected a small drone flying over the Green Zone and immediately engaged and shot it down.

The incident coincided with heightened security measures in Baghdad, particularly around the Green Zone, which houses government headquarters and diplomatic missions, amid a wide-ranging security campaign carried out by the authorities to combat corruption and pursue prominent officials.
